3M has made bold innovations in the coating process and developed a solvent-free coating process. 

For example, after adopting solvent-free coating technology, 3M™ solvent-free coated tissue series tapes can reduce the use of 80 tons of solvent per 1 million square meters of the tape produced, compared with traditional solvent-based production methods, while reducing a lot of carbon emissions.  

Moreover, this series of tapes also has features such as high initial tack, reworkable, low-temperature operation, etc., which contribute to environmental protection while meeting industrial production needs.    

In addition to the solvent-free coated tissue tape series, 3M also has a number of tape products that adopt solvent-free coating technology:  such as 3M™ 100MP series, 200MP series, 300MP+ series and 300LSE series double-sided tapes, etc.,  

which are suitable for different bonding scenarios respectively, exerting the dual value of environmental protection and practicality in their respective fields.  

Fossil fuels are non-renewable resources. To reduce the use of fossil fuel materials, 3M has increased the application of bio-based materials in some products.    

For example, 3M™ VHB™ tape 5981, this new thin acrylic foam tape, contains bio-based components, with a bio-based content of 35%.  

While maintaining product performance such as excellent drop resistance, edge lifting resistance and good push-out strength, it also achieves the carbon reduction goal, which can be described as killing two birds with one stone.  

There is also the 9731 double-sided tape product with different adhesives on both sides: silicone / acrylate, which uses about 47% bio-based materials, and also performs well in carbon reduction.  

3M actively cooperates with processors to vigorously promote the automated tape application process.  

This not only greatly improves efficiency, saves two operators, but also directly reduces the comprehensive cost of tape raw materials and processes by 50%,    and also helps customers achieve stable construction quality, effectively reducing waste and energy consumption.

The newly developed thermal debonding double-sided tape 94130HD by 3M, the black side is bonded to the middle frame, and the gray side is bonded to the OLED display.    

When maintenance is required, the debonding is activated by heating, which can assist in the recycling and reuse of expensive OLED displays, improve the recycling value of products, and reduce the generation of e-waste.
